Wednesday, April 28, 2021 – from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. (ET)

The purpose of the event is to place phone calls to current members around the state, thank them for their membership in the association, and to ask how their business is doing. In addition, we’re asking them if they have any desires to volunteer to serve on a committee or in local or state leadership. And finally, we’re asking them for membership referrals.

Volunteers will be assigned a list of ten members to call during the Phone-A-Thon. On the day of the Phone-A-Thon, volunteers will join together on a Zoom call at 9:00 a.m. (ET) for approximately 15 minutes. (See below for the Zoom log-on/dial-in information – for each date.) We will then mute the zoom call so volunteers can make their calls while we all work “together” via Zoom. During this time, you will be able to submit any questions or immediate follow-up requests on the Zoom chat. After an hour, volunteers will end their member calls and return to the Zoom call for a quick debriefing.

From NAIFA-Florida CEO Tom Ashley:

  1. Suggest the calls to random members be very informal.
  2. Simply let them know you’re a fellow member of NAIFA & you just want to “check-in” with them — ask how they & their business is doing. Let them talk.
  3. Just have a chat and then thank them for their membership in NAIFA. After I introduce myself I let them know that some of the other leaders and I are making random calls to members & then I (in a light-hearted way) let them know I’m not calling for PAC contributions …. that really seems to put them at ease.
  4. When appropriate, ask them if they have any desire to serve the association in any capacity (local or state Board, committee member – legislative, young agents, health insurance, political involvement, PAC, membership, other). Write down their names and the areas of service they’re interested in.
  5. Finally, ask if they know of any other agents/advisors they know who might be interested in joining NAIFA (for opportunities to grow their business, networking, political advocacy to protect their careers).  Provide us with the names & any contact info at https://naifa-florida.org/refer-a-member/.
  6. What I have found is that most of our members are very willing to talk & have a plain conversation — and most importantly, were very appreciative that we thought about them and appreciated us making the call.
  7. And …. This will make YOU feel good!
